Our Instructors

​1. Why did you start martial arts?

I had wanted to learn martial arts since I was a child pretending to be a ninja turtle in the backyard.

​

2. How long have you been training for?

25 years 

​

3. What styles have you practiced?

I started with Korean styles - winning gold in both Taekwondo and Haidong Gumdo. Then extending into Taekyun, Sunmudo, Gongkwon Yusul and Hopaesol. 

I recently moved into training and instructing Krav Maga. Have practiced Kung Fu, Karate, Hapkido, Arnis and Hunmudo.

4. What is your favourite part about instructing?

I love that moment when a technique or move comes together for a student. That point where they just get it and break out in a big smile.

5. What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

You are never too old, unfit, unhealthy or injured to start martial arts. You just need to pace yourself and start somewhere.

6. What is a fun or surprising fact about you outside of martial arts?

I can make balloon animals.

To learn self-defence to feel safer and more confident.

4. What is your favourite part about instructing?

Watching students struggle with learning a technique, and then that moment when they realise that they can do it! Having struggled myself - I have enjoyed being able to teach students in the way that they learn.

5. What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

We all have to start somewhere. Keep showing up, keep trying, and be consistent - it's worth it!​

6. What is a fun or surprising fact about you outside of martial arts?

I have a pet pig.

I initially started training for self-defence - to feel safer. It has been a source of strength and fun!

Over 40 years!

Seeing students have fun whilst they gain skills and confidence on their martial arts journey.

5. What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

Have fun whilst you learn and try to partner with a senior student so you can develop your skills.

​

6. What is a fun or surprising fact about you outside of martial arts?

I like to swing dance, which is another great way to have fun, be social and keep fit.

My children started training first, then I decided to join in for my physical and mental health - and I haven't looked back!
